Uter Lake (Danau Uter) perhaps is not as famous as Sentani Lake in Papua. However, this lake has a charm that is no less beautiful than other famous lakes located in Papua. Papua is located in the far eastern of Indonesia but stores more than gems that are able to attract the attention of anyone who knows it.

Uter Lake, The Clearest Lake in Paradise Island

One of them is a variety of exotic places that can be a great destination for vacation. One of the exotic places that can be visited as a tourism destination in Papus is lake Uter. This lake is famous for having beautiful scenery and clear water. A scene like this is certainly the most attractive thing to momentarily forget the excitement in the big city.

Lake Uter is located in Maybrat Regency, West Papua. It is located in the middle of the dense forest of Papua which adds a beautiful impression to every eye who enjoys it. To reach Lake Uter, tourists have to pass through a series of secondary forests, gardens owned by local residents and pass through several villages around Aitinyo District.

During the trip, there will be a view of local residents’ life who do various activities such hunting and gardening. In essence, there are many local residents who will be found during the trip which will make it more enjoyable. The tourists not only can enjoy the beauty of nature but can also see and interact more closely with the surrounding residents when passing by. Occasionally, tourists can greet residents who are blessing as a sign of brotherhood.

Location of Lake Uter can be reached approximately for an hour or 30 kilometers from Kambuaya Airport to Sris Village. It is a village in Aitinyo District where the lake is located. Then the lake can be reached approximately 100 meters by walk.

After the long journey, you can breathe fresh air accompanied by a clear lake water view that will be so refreshing. The water is clear blue that is translucent to the bottom. The lake forms an ecosystem and palace for several types of fish. It is surrounded by colorful and refreshing natural-scented limestone hills. It’s just the beginning of this clear lake. Can you imagine how beautiful this spot would be?

The Attraction of Uter Lake

Hidden paradise in Maybrat is a new destination for both domestic and foreign tourists. The natural landscape offered by this lake is very identical to the typical tourist attraction of Papua which is dominated by arid limestone cliffs. In addition to the natural beauty presented, the atmosphere of the forest inland surrounding the lake will be a great trip companion. The chirping of wild birds in the forest sounds like natural music accompanying every step of the way. There are a bunch of attractions and activities to spend days in Uter lake.

Limestone Cliffs Seems to Float

The basin contains fresh water that flows through the Aitinyo District and is surrounded by high cliffs. The abundance of limestone rocks looks like a cluster of islands scattered around the lake. One of the most prominent things that can be found in the location of the lake is the limestone cliffs around the lake that look as if floating. The color of the cliff dominated by dark brown to light looks exotic. Combined with blue and sometimes green lake water, it gives rise to illusions that the cliffs are floating.

Clear Water

The water of Danau Uter has incredible clarity. It can be said that this lake is among the clearest in Indonesia. This happens because the lake area is far from the city center so there will be no water pollution into the lake. The color of the water looks really amazing. It will change directly following the weather. Sometimes it looks blue and occasionally green during the dry season. It also looks like glass during the day. You can even see the shadow of the boats that appear at the bottom of the shallow part of the lake.

Boating and Tracking Around the Lake

There are many interesting and exciting activities that can be done around this clear lake. The first thing any tourists can do in the lake is to get around in a small traditional wooden boat. No need to worry because local residents will give you a companion to enjoy boating around the lake.

The boats that are used are still manually powered so it will be more fun. Such a boat is used in order to maintain the natural beauty around the lake. It can only fit 3 people since it is smaller and not so wide. The local residents will pick the tourists up from the shore of the lake. While on a boat, tourists can enjoy the beauty of the lake from different points of view. From the boat, tourists can also see a variety of fishes swimming in groups in the lake.

If boating around a lake is not satisfying enough to explore nature, tracking through the environment will also be a great idea. By passing the trail near the lake, this activity will be more exciting. For this activity, physical readiness will be needed. The distance of the track is quite far and requires more energy.

In addition, mental readiness is also one more important thing needed. The forest that will be passed is still rarely passed by most people. Perhaps, there will be wild animals that can be found which can be surprising such as wild boar or snakes. However, such adventures will be exciting at all.

Swimming

Last but not least, directly feeling the freshness and clarity of the water is a must when visiting this spot. Tourists who want to swim in the lake have been given permission by nearby residents. Even many local residents also like to swim in the lake. Feeling the cold water from the inland of the forest will be so refreshing. The lake has varying depth. Some points have depth more than 5 meters. If the tourists already have more experience in swimming, it is also possible to dive deeper. There is so much fun that can be done in Danau Uter, Papua.
