Howdy y’all! I had a message from one of my blog readers wantin’ more info about stayin’ in West Papua. Ya see, not everyone wanna be doin’ research before they be headin’ off on vacation; they just wanna get board the airplane ‘n go. Travel agents are great at sortin’ this kinda stuff out, but some people, like me, wanna save that money ‘n rather be spendin’ it at the destination. So, to help out, I’m gonna talk ’bout some different options for accommodation today.
Homestays
I be a big fan of the idea of homestays. They’re cost-effective ‘n give y’all a chance to experience what livin’ like the locals is like. Like most backpackers, hostels, hotels, ‘n stuff, homestays are also rated, mostly on sites like Booking dot com, or Airbnb.
What’s great about this type of accommodation is that it available throughout West Papua, from Sorong to Raja Ampat, from Kri to Waisai and even Arborek, although it don’t have many good reviews, likely because the island is so small and touristy folks may just wanna be stayin’ elsewhere. Most homestays be right one the beach, close to divin’ spots ‘n some even be offerin’ car rentals.
Hotels
Not everyone be keen on the idea of a homestay, because it means that y’all may be havin’ to do some self caterin’. No mind, there will sure be a hotel that will have what y’all be wantin’. When I hear ‘five star’ I often just wanna wave my hand, ‘n say, ‘no thanks’, but top notch accommodation in Indonesia as a whole is quite economical, ‘specially with the Dollar bein’ as strong as it is.
Because the Indonesian government be promotin’ West Papua as a tourist-friendly province to visit, hotel stays ain’t that expensive. There be an element of added safety when stayin’ in a hotel rather than a hostel or the like. But to each person, their own, right? I still advocate that it be our responsibility as touristy folks to look after ourselves ‘n our belongings.
Liveaboards
For those of y’all that be likin’ to dream about the ultimate vacation, I still highly recommend a liveaboard experience because it be the ultimate in luxury, and y’all be able to get to places that a car can’t go. Yeah, I admit that they ain’t the kind of accommodation y’all can book on a whim, but savin’ some money for somethin’ very few people can say they done seems worth it. I ain’t no millenial, but I do understand their reasonin’ about rather spendin’ their money on experiences that material stuff.
I’m still plannin’ a vacation to Indonesia and I be hopin’ that with what I have shared on this blog inspires y’all to do the same.
