Lombok may be havin’ Mount Rinjani, y’all, but West Papua has three mountains right round the capital city, so if trekkin’s ya thang, then ya maybe wantin’ to add Manokwari to ya vacation itinerary.
First of all, there be Mount Arfak. The Arfak range is the highest in the province. Kinda like Indonesia’s Everest. If ya reach the top, then y’all have a bird’s eye view of Manokwari. The range is in a national park, but the great thang is that ya don’t need to pay a single dime to enter. How awesome is that? Get ya hikin’ boots out ‘n start climbin’! If y’all have an interest in bugs (I sure don’t), then ya should definitely be making the trek, because there be some creepy crawlies ‘n flyin’ critters in the area that are endemic to Indonesia.
Another mountain that is to be found in a nature park is Meja Mountain, or Taman Wisatea Alam. It be referred to by some as “Table Mountain”. I ain’t that good with geography ‘n stuff, but ain’t
that in Africa somewhere? Like them other nature parks in Indonesia, there be a big focus on conservation at this one. From the readin’ I’ve done about the area, both animals ‘n plants are taken care of for future generations. I ain’t too sure if I’m gonna be spendin’ too much time sightseein’ in this one though y’all. They have venomous spiders there! I am a serious arachnaphobe. Them eight-legged creepers aside, there be many different varieties of trees, shrubs ‘n even herbs. I be wonderin’ if I will be able to buy some to bring home to try in my own home cookin’. There be a fee to enter this park, but it’s just a little more than a quarter, a whole thirty five cents.
If y’all be up to a flight in a vomit comet airplane (that be a small twin prop one, like a Cessna or such), then y’all can visit the stunnin’ Wondiway Mountain in the park with the same name. Again, there be an entrance charge, but it’s less than a buck fifty. There be a massive array of different flora ‘n fauna to see. Like Mount Arfak bein’ offerin’ y’all a view of a city from the summit, so does Wondiway. From the top y’all be able to see Cenderwasih Bay and another bay I haven’t heard about before called Wandamen. I will check it out. Maybe there be cool stuff to do there too. After all, the more I read, the more I be thinkin’ I’m gonna need a lotta time to visit Indonesia, or be makin’ multiple trips. After all, travellin’ in Indonesia is so budget friendly, right?
