Did y’all know that Indonesia be the fourth most populous country in the world? I thought they’d rank in the top 10, but the top 5? Wow! That be somethin’ right? Some islands obviously have more inhabitants than others, but still – I’d not have thunk they had so many people. Yeah, my mind’s kinda blown.
The government appears to be doin’ a lot to improve the lives of the population, while still tryin’ to maintain many natural aspects of the country. Not too long ago, the World Bank assisted with funds to reduce deforestation. I be readin a lot on how people keep cuttin’ trees down, without makin’ any effort to replant. Lord knows we need trees ‘n other plants for oxygen, but them green beauties also have an impact on the climatic temperature. Some countries that have less trees than a decade ago are experiencing record high temperatures in the summer ‘n getting a darn side colder in winter. Indonesia has a goal to limit deforestation: It aims to 325,000 hectares between 2020 and 2030 across the whole country, including the jungles ‘n forests of West Papua. They’re also makin’ inroads to recoup lost or degraded forests.
Because of the deforestation that’s already happened, Indonesia is one of the world’s largest carbon dioxide ‘n greenhouse gas pollution contributors. Havin’ received assistance from the world bank, the restoration plan will go a great way in reducing carbon emissions. The government is also lookin’ at alternative energy sources that are more environmentally friendly. I find it refreshin’ to see any government bein’ forward thinkin’ in its approach to climate change.
If ya think ‘bout it, this program is not only great for the planet, but the local tribes can continue to live in their true habitat.
One thang I did read durin’ my research that shocked me is that only 7% of all the waste that Indonesians be generatin’ is recycled. Most of the waste ends up in landfills. It’s a scary thought. I’m gonna try find out if the current government has any plans to get the citizens on the ground to start recyclin’ more. After all, if ya start the mindset at home, it will carry through to all aspects of your life, and conserve the country for the next generation of Indonesians – and keep us touristy folks visitin’.
For a country that be considered third world, I commend Indonesia’s government for its efforts to make it’s country a better place. There be a lotta other countries all over the world that should take notice ‘n follow in their footsteps.
